In attempt to sit my writer’s hat more comfortably on my head, I picked up a volume of Rumi’s works from my public library. (Sidenote: my public library is one of my favorite places in the world!) It’s taking me a while to get through this slim book because I can only read Rumi so much at a time. I imagine an exhausted scribe simultaneously stumbling after his grand, awe-inspiring absentminded teacher through the marketplace or fields while trying to scribble every gold word for posterity . Poor sucker. Some of Rumi’s poetry gets better and deeper and richer the more you mentally chew on it. This week, my mind snagged on the last couplet.

As I dig deeper into the world of blogging, I’m learning how much there is to know about having a blog. I feel like I don’t know anything! There are tons of articles and lists out there about how to get people to visit your site, comment on your posts, find inspiration for posts, monetize posts, and make your site look attractive to bypassing potential readers. (Reread that last sentence and pretend to speed up like crazy about halfway through.) Whew..! It kinda feels a little overwhelming. One thing I decided to try is an editorial calendar  to help keep track of my posts. It even lets me start drafts on the days I want to post and allows me to schedule my posts! At first I thought, “I post twice a week. How can this thing do anything more than make me feel inadequate?” But after reading another blogger waxing poetic on her favorite plugins, I realize that it made way more sense than my long, handwritten list of written ideas for future posts. I even have my entire February planned out now!

This week has really been on recentering myself on what I need to do to get me to my happy place. More than just indulging in hot chocolate, sleeping in, and watching Hulu, its about the other half of the equation- walking the pups, getting motivated to work on projects, getting my bidness done, and even thinking about exercise (at least its on the table!). I love the feeling of checking things off a list and its one of the greatest reasons for me making lists. Working on that balance checks off some of those things and its energizing!
